Hikers welcome book author to North Shropshire!

September 2024

Big welcome to Marie Kreft today as the Hikers unveiled their walk for the 2025 Shropshire Slow Travel guide book. What a day for Paula to lead her first walk and she didn’t even have the directions until 5 minutes before we set off. Needn’t have worried she did brilliantly. Everyone loved walking with you Marie, we all can’t wait now for you to publish your book next year.

Awards winner

Drayton Hikers Celebrate BBC Awards

September 2023

It was smiles all round as Drayton Hikers picked up a category award at the BBC Shropshire 2023 “make a difference awards". The group picked up the award after being shortlisted for the final from over 250 groups.

Founder members of the group Bryan, Jenny, Stella and Paula were all in attendance to pick up the award at the Anstice Hall in Madeley. Bryan said "it was a fantastic occasion, we met some really great people doing some really great things in the Shropshire communities, we are absolutely delighted to be recognized by the BBC. We only started the group in November last year to try and get as many of the local community out walking regardless of whether they have never walked before or if they can walk for miles, we want to offer something for everyone, but just as importantly to have a social core with events to bring people together socially, make friends and improve mental health.

11 months ago. I was wandering around with Stella on my own after everyone else failed to turn up at our first event, and now we have over 200 active walkers coming out with us regularly, the response has been amazing.

We have a new website coming shortly which will allow people to join us via the website, view all the events and book online, and will shortly start a weekly podcast to allow everyone to listen about who we are and what we are doing, we are really looking forward to 2024.
